Tail Rotor De-Icing (TRDI) Cables

Solutions for Today's Helicopters

Today's heavy duty helicopters supporting the US Army and the oil and gas industry operate in some of the coldest environments in the world, including the North Sea, the Alaskan plains, Siberia and Eastern Europe. In flight, ice forms quickly on the rotor surfaces, and it must be removed constantly to assure safe flight. Since the rotors are turning at over 1000 rpm, the electrical cables used to supply power to the de-ice system must be reliable and be able to withstand a very severe dynamic motion and vibration.

The Icore team has developed an innovative solution to fulfill this wiring application, first for the Army's Blackhawk helicopter, and more recently for the S-92 commercial helicopters. The Icore Tail Rotor De-ice (TRDI) cable solution is a unique combination of a rotating connector fitting and a highly durable and flexible wired conduit. The cable system has been proven through thousands of hours of helicopter flight in both military and commercial flight applications, and is the preferred solution for a number of different applications in rotating machinery.
